My journey to becoming a yoga teacher has been that of a lifetime. I began the practice of yoga almost 15 years ago in an effort to calm the re-occurring pain of a back injury I sustained from a horseback riding incident at age 16. While I fell in love with yoga from the first class that I took, I still only went to classes on and off. Once I found my rhythm, I practiced yoga more often and noticed that when I faithfully did yoga, my back pain would subside. I also tried running and aerobics, but often found those forms of exercise only caused more pain and I would then turn back to yoga.
Finally, I listened to what my body was telling me and began a regular yoga practice. I reveled in the benefits of yoga and the joy that it brought me. I found myself constantly sharing with anyone that would listen, the benefits of yoga and what I was experiencing. Stress is a part of all of our lives, but yoga and meditation changed me in ways that still leave me in awe. In addition to the physical benefits of added strength and flexibility, I found that what used to cause me anxiety and stress, no longer affected me in a negative way. My previously glass half empty attitude gradually shifted to glass half full. My family appreciates and enjoys the shift in my attitude and I swear I even catch my dog smiling at the fact that I finally know what he has known all along. My inner self was shining through and showing me there is a better way – follow it. So, I did.
In the winter of 2008, with the support of my life partner, I enrolled in a 200hr yoga teacher training with Infinite Light Yoga School, studying under my very first teacher – Tony Riposo. The training was intense and extensive and wonderfully rewarding and in September of 2009, I graduated with a 200hr RYT certification. In addition to the teacher training program I have taken meditation workshops as well as a series on the practices of the Pradipika – an ancient yogic text.
I feel that safe and detailed instruction that allows each individual to find the way that the postures work best for their body will create an opportunity for each student to connect with their true selves. I hope to bring students in touch with their bodies and quiet their minds – truly connecting body & mind. My interests are varied – from light, gentle & nurturing yoga to a more vigorous flow, and I know that with loving instruction, yoga is for everyone.
I feel ready to share what I have learned and look forward to bringing my years of practice experience to students struggling to discover the amazing effects yoga can bring to the mind, body and spirit.
In addition to teaching classes, I facilitate practice teaching sessions and help to mentor upcoming teachers in the ILY Yoga Teacher Training program.
